Arts, Crafts and Activities

This is a Mummy type post for help, advice and tips. Alice is now 16 months and has naturally become more active and inquisitive about things, so I am going to start trying different crafty things with her ie. painting, play doh-ing etc.

The problem I have is that I am not sure where to begin and what sort of activities to try other than the above suggestions.

I would also like to take Alice to different places to discover new things or just simply go for a walk, we regularly go to the beach, budleigh, Bicton Park but would like to know what other things there are to do that aren't expensive.

So, I was hoping for suggestions from people for what to do craft wise and where to go when we want to go out and about.

  1. Go for a woodland walk with a bucket and pick up anything interesting. When you get home a nice piece of card and a bit of pva and you have an interesting collage. Another day a beach collage could be good. Baking together is lots of fun, make some fairy cakes or cookies and then you can decorate them too. A large plastic sheet with some shaving foam ecourages early mark making. On a sunny day mine have loved the elc water table, I think it's actually a water and sand table but we just use it for water only.

  2. In Exeter there's a fab group called Messy Munchkins, I would encourage messy play of any variety because it's so good for stimulating their senses butthat of course does cost a bit of money. I don't live locally but I believe there is a fab walk at Haldon Hill that takes them on a Gruffalo hunt. You could try making your own musical instruments, singing songs will be good for language development.
