Alice is now 8 and half months old and she has learnt to roll, crawl, turn on the spot and is cruising any piece of furniture she can get her hands on, she also has got her two front bottom teeth.
However, she doesn't seem to be able to eat anything with lumps in. We have tried the freeze dried foods that you hydrate and the jars of food and she just gags until, what looks like, the entire contents of her body coming out. Now this my seem like I am exaggerating but, ask anyone who has seen this scene and they will agree.
Recently we have tried to give her sticks of cucumber and mild cheese and because of her two front teeth these also end up turning into little lumps in her mouth which she then gags and throws up with too. What are we doing wrong? Any ideas welcome for helping get our little Alice on more textured foods.
I feel like its something that we are doing as it seems that every other baby is happy to eat textured or lumpy food and Alice is the only one who won't or can't.

Hope you don't mind me replying but weaning is my specialist subject :) firstly, I want to reassure you on a couple of things. Alice is not the only child to do this even though it may feel that way. Food before age 1 is just for fun, although you wean from 4-6 months that is just practice and they don't have any real need for food until 1. So, I would recommend not to feel the need with staying back at the proper puree stage. If she ends up not eating much of the lumpy stuff then so be it, it won't hurt. Secondly, a baby's gag reflex is much further forward than an adults so they will gag more often. It's a natural survival skill to stop them choking. Yes, when they gag it causes them to be sick. However, again this is hurting no one except maybe your flooring! I woukd offer her more finger foods to give her plenty of practice so that she works out herself where her gag reflex is. Yes, this will involve mishaps but I think you will get the end result more quickly. I suggest just giving her whatever you're eating. Have a bit of a research of baby led weaning, which I swear by. Things I offered were sandwiches cut into fingers, toast, cheerios I woukd out milk on leave for a few minutes so they soak the milk up and then drain off excess, pasta in a veg sauce, all fruits, carrots chopped into batons and boiled. Have a go and have fun.
